Hotel allows durian Corus Hotel breaks tradition by dedicating special area to  host permanent durian buffet

KUALA LUMPUR: While a majority of hotels in the country shudder at the prospect of having a durian party, Corus Hotel is an exception. The hotel, which is located at Jalan Ampang here, has decided to throw its door wide open to Malaysia’s ‘King of Fruits,’ probably making it the first to do so in the country.

Therefore, you will not see the ‘No Durian Allowed’ signs that often stare down at you in other hotels. If you love durian, you will love Corus Hotel, which has invested RM100,000 to create ‘one of a kind’ special place to house a permanent durian buffet to satiate the taste buds of its adventurous customers.

“Well everyone loves durian, locals and foreigners alike, and durian is very much Malaysian, so what better way to offer the durian when they are staying in the hotel? “As Malaysia’s durian is touted as the best in the world, we should not take it for granted and market it that way,” said Corus’ owner Andrew Khoo Boo Yeo to Bernama. The hotel plans to open the durian buffet seven days a week, all year round, beginning Aug 31.

The buffet may include durian confectionaries and pastries of between 10 and 12 desserts, such as durian cakes, ice creams, coffee, biscuits and other things. Khoo described the buffet as an ‘out of the box’ idea to provide a special place where the hotel’s customers could experience the joy of an exclusive gastronomy in the comfort of the hotel. How is he going to realise his idea? “Our coffee house and the main lobby area are quite large.

We just need to allocate a space. So, the durian buffet at the coffee house will have a separate area and specially zoned off. “It will not be fresh durians hence the smell will be minimal. However, we are looking to create a special self-enclosed air-conditioned room for durian lovers to have fresh durian in the comfort of the hotel,” he said. – Bernama
