KUCHING: The hotel sector in Sarawak is experiencing difficult times following a new wave of Covid-19 pandemic.

Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Sarawak president Mohamad Ibrahim Nordin said, the business of the hotel industry was falling drastically.

“We only depend on local business in Sarawak. Certainly, the occupancy rate will drop drastically,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Sunday.

He added the hotel’s income was also affected as many events involving delegates from outside Sarawak were postponed or had to be cancelled.

“Indeed, the hotel industry in the state recovered when the country entered into the recovery movement control order (RMCO) on June 10.

“In September, most hotel businesses grew by 30 percent while resort hotels were full on weekends,” he said.

Mohamad Ibrahim said the new wave of Covid-19 would impact the hotel industry.

The Sarawak government has directed that all Malaysian citizens and non-citizens who wish to enter Sarawak from Peninsular Malaysia must apply for admission through the EnterSarawak application and fill in the e-Health Declaration form effective Oct 4 to 18.
