MIRI: Police have detained a man for his alleged involvement in housebreaking yesterday afternoon.

Miri Police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the arrest when contacted yesterday.

He revealed that the 31-year-old from Kampung Tiris, Bekenu was detained by a team of Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel around 1.30pm inside a hut in Kampung Tiris.

Upon further inspection, police found a disassembled shotgun, a chainsaw, and several live bullets among the suspect’s possession.

Lim added that the man is currently under police custody to assist probe into a housebreaking incident reported in Bekenu.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960 for illegally possessing a firearm.
