House on fire: Pregnant wife sprains ankle when escaping

BAU: A five-month pregnant wife sprained her ankle after she bravely jumped from the upper floor of her house which was on fire in the early morning of February 15 at Kampung Serasot here.

Jenny Dilok who lived with her husband and parents in-law was later admitted to Bau Hospital and was later discharged after she received treatment.

Jenny’s husband only suffered minor injury on his leg in the 1.45 am incident.

The house owner, who is Jenny’s father in-law Rimet Anak Nyumbib, 55, and his wife Nowiem Nooing, 52, however escaped injuries.

Rimet when met at their temporary shelter (hut) said his daughter in-law who is pregnant five months and his son has no other way to escape from the fire but to jump down from the first floor of their house.

“The fire started from a small house beside my house at about 1.45am as we were asleep.

“Luckly that night I was not working,” said Rimet, a retired soldier and now working as a security guard with Everrise Supermarket.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Harry Henry Jinep yesterday visited the victims and presented cash and building materials to build their new home at a new site.

Besides that the victims also received assistance from the Welfare Department, his employer, relatives and friends.
