KUCHING: The state Department of Environment (DOE) and the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) in collaboration with Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) will organise a household e-waste (BEE) collection campaign in Samariang this Saturday (Oct 22).

According to DOE statement, the programme to be located at the parking area of Mydin Bandar Baru Samariang will start from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm on that day.

“The programme aims to ensure that used and expired electrical and electronic equipment (e-waste) is collected and separated in order to recover useful materials or valuable resources that can contribute to sustainable development and protect the environment.

“E-waste that is not managed in an environmentally friendly manner can cause serious health and pollution problems because e-waste contains several pollutants or heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, beryllium and so on,” DOE said today.

Therefore, DOE urged the public in the affected areas to bring their household BEE to the programme because the licensed contractor will buy the goods at a certain price for the purpose of recycling and environmental sustainability.

The public who have any questions and feedback regarding the campaign can contact Shirly Alik or Charlie Sibab at 082-482 535 or via e-mail shirley@doe.gov.my or charlie@doe.gov.my.
