SIBU: The Sarawak government contributed RM1.8 million to two places of worship in the Dudong constituency here today.

The Salim Da Wang Gong Association received RM1,000,000, and the Iban Methodist Church Sibu Jaya, RM800,000.

The cheques were presented by Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Dudong chairman Datuk Teo Boon Siew at a simple ceremony at the PDP Dudong Service Centre.

Teo said the financial aid, given out through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), is intended for upgrading the buildings of the two places of worship, proof of the state government’s concern and care towards Sarawak’s multiracial communities.

“Every house of worship always receives due attention from the government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he said.

Teo also advised the recipients to use the fund accordingly and ensure that everything is accounted for.

At the ceremony, Teo also presented five laptops and four printers to five Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and individuals in the constituency.
