IPOH: A housewife pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to trafficking in an Indonesian woman since last year.

Yew Lee See, 52, made the plea after the charge was read out to her before Judge Mohd Fauzi Mohd Nasir.

Yew was charged with trafficking in the 31-year-old victim for exploitation at a house in Hala Desa Pantai 2, Pantai Remis, Manjung, between 2019 and May 20 this year.

The charge, under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) Act 2007, carries an imprisonment for up to 15 years and fine, if found guilty.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Naidatul Athirah Azman appeared for the prosecution, while Yew was represented by counsel Ricky Hong.

Two representatives of the Indonesian embassy in Malaysia were also present at yesterday’s proceedings.

Judge Mohd Fauzi set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and fixed Sept 22 for mention. − Bernama
