KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Puncak Borneo women chief Athina Sim has advised housewives to participate in the Caruman Sukarela Insentif Suri (i-Suri) by registering as EPF members.

She said, “Mothers work hard at home and are rarely appreciated. Thus, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government came up with this idea to ensure they, too, have an income.”

Housewives, widows and single mothers whose profiles are enlisted in the National Database on poverty (eKasih) can register for i-Suri and contribute a minimum of RM5 on a monthly basis into their retirement savings accounts in order to be eligible for the government incentive of RM40 per month which will be deposited into their EPF accounts.

Sim urges housewives to sign up for the i-Suri scheme.

According to Sim, besides i-Suri, starting this year, B40 mothers can also apply for free insurance under MySalam scheme.

“A lot of B40 mothers still work at the age of 50 or 60 to support their families by working, for example, as cleaners.

“Under the PH government, we have raised the minimum wage to RM1,100. This is a big boost to mothers nationwide.”

Sim added that single mothers also received financial assistance from the welfare ministry and that there were many entrepreneurial schemes for single mothers.

She revealed that her team had been going around, assisting the people, especially women.

“Since yesterday was Mother’s Day, my team and I organised a few events. For example, we celebrated Mother’s Day with the women and some newborn babies at Kpg Sigundar, Sebemban, Siburan and Serembu. Basically, we covered Tarat, Mambong and Serembu,” she added.

Sim added, “On Mother’s Day, we also thanked all the men in our lives for making our roles possible and also for supporting us throughout our journey as women.”

To all women, she said, “Being a woman, I know it is never easy but stay strong, be bold and courageous!

“You, women, will never walk alone! We, women, are together in this!! Let us continue to encourage and motivate all other women around us, old and young, to continue striving higher in order to achieve our hearts’ desire.”
