KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau (SPCB) chief Wilfred Yap was recently approached by the residents of a few housing estates off Jalan Stutong Baru who complained to him about an illegal rubbish dump by the road side of Lorong Lapangan Terbang 5K.

Following the complaints received, Yap immediately met up with the residents and went to inspect the illegal dumping site.

During discussions, the residents also requested for Kuching South City Council (MBKS) to set up a bulk rubbish collection centre as they feel that the setting up of such a centre would help to reduce the indiscriminate disposal of bulky rubbish.

Yap said the problem of the illegal rubbish dump was communicated to MBKS. The council was requested to quickly and urgently resolve the problem of the illegal rubbish dump which was unsightly and smelly.

MBKS has now cleared the dump by the road side of Lorong Lapangan Terbang 5K.

Yap hoped that the public was aware that illegally dumped rubbish cost rate payers a lot of money each year in removal charges.

Instead of dumping rubbish illegally, anyone who needed to dispose bulk rubbish should contact Trienekens @ (082) 612300 for its rates and charges, he added.

At the same time, he encouraged the public to play their role by assisting MBKS by reporting or lodging a complaint if they saw anyone illegally dumping rubbish by the roadside.

The public can report to MBKS the offenders who dispose rubbish illegally by giving the council information such as the registration number of the offender’s vehicle, location, date, time, description of rubbish and description of offender.

A photo of the offender taken with a hand phone would be very effective in identifying him or her, Yap said.
