CONTRACTORS working on the Pan Borneo project must comply with safety standards so as not to endanger road users.

Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii disclosed that his team had made several complaints and met with the contractors on the issue of potholes along the Pan Borneo road in his constituency.

He said repeated requests have been made for the contractors to fix the potholes and road junctions along Jalan Bulat, Jalan Stok, Jalan Kim San, Jalan Sungai Paoh and Jakar among others.

“The complaints filed are often ignored with the contractors giving various excuses for not repairing or maintaining the roads involved. The repair works are often postponed indefinitely.

“Unfortunately, contractors who do not comply with safety standards such as potholes being without safety signs, road junctions without signboards and dark conditions at night will endanger road users,” he said. ‘

He said this when debating on the Head of State’s address on the third day of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Wednesday (May 17).

Huang urged the relevant parties to take immediate action as there have been several road accidents reported.

“I would also like to suggest the construction of a roundabout at the Jakar intersection to make it easier for road users to enter Jakar or continue their journey to or from Sarikei,” he said.
