SERIAN: Police here foiled a human smuggling attempt by a local involving three Indonesians in a mounted roadblock today.

District police chief DSP Aswandy Anis disclosed that the arrest happened around 4am at KM90, near Balai Ringin along the Kuching-Sri Aman Road.

The team detained a suspicious vehicle for inspection and found a local man and three foreigners, comprising two men and a woman inside.

“Further inspections found the foreigners without having any valid travel documents and have entered Sarawak through a rat trail at Biawak, Lundu.

“It was also found that the local man had taken up an offer to bring the (three) Indonesians to Sibu for a price of RM750 (RM250 per person) when he met with an Indonesian agent in Mile 3, Kuching,” the police chief said.

During the arrest, the team also found a tube containing drugs believed to be syabu on the local man, who was later tested positive for drugs.

Aswandy pointed out that all of them were brought to the police station for further actions.

The local man will be investigated under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Migrant Smuggling (Atipsom) Act 2007 and Section 12(3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, the three foreigners will be investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
