LUNDU: A local man who attempted to smuggle six illegal immigrants through a jalan tikus (rat trail) at Kampung Raso was arrested on Wednesday (Dec 23).

The local man

State General Operations Force (GOF) Commander SAC Mancha Ata said in the 8.10pm incident his men came across a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) from Indonesia travelling through an ungazetted road.

Upon inspection, it was found that there was one local man with five men and one woman – all Indonesians – inside the vehicle. Only three of the Indonesians had valid travel documents.

“All of the suspects were detained and handed over to the Lundu district police headquarters for further investigation under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, and Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).

“Total estimated worth of the items at the scene was RM20,800,” Mancha said.

He assured that GOF Sarawak would continue to monitor and check border areas, including rat trails, for illegal entries and undocumented immigrants.
