LUNDU: Overcast weather and rain did not dampen the spirits of the local multiracial community from making the Lundu District Gawai Dayak Parade 2024 a success.

The parade, themed “Bisamah Otto Maju Mujur Pakat Baya Nuju Pemansang” or “Together Progressing Towards Advancement,” saw hundreds of participants gathering as early as 6am at Lundu Mini Stadium this morning (May 22).

With 29 contingents participating, the colourful parade was further enlivened by around 725 participants showcasing various traditional costumes.

The event was also graced by the presence of Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang who also took part in the parade.

Billy said the parade is one of the two segments of the Lundu District Gawai Dayak Celebration 2024, scheduled to take place on the same day.

“This early celebration is to further enhance the spirit of unity among the various races in Lundu and Sematan Districts.

“The celebration comprises two segments, namely the Lundu District Gawai Dayak Parade and the Lundu District Gawai Dayak Dinner 2024,” he said.
