Hunt on for attempted robbery suspect

BINTULU: Police are currently searching for an individual suspected of an attempted robbery near Jalan Bintulu Airport traffic light, here.

It was understood that the attempt was done by placing wooden pieces fitted with sharp screws on the road to bust the victim’s car tyres.

Following that, the alleged robber would come out from hiding and mug the driver.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail when contacted, confirmed that such incident happened around 8.45pm on Monday (Dec 21).

In a police report, the complainant was on the way home through Jalan Bintulu Airport traffic light. The complainant then saw a dark object with iron on the road.

“The complainant stopped his vehicle to dodge the object and tried to look at it closely. At the same time, an unknown person was seen coming out from a road divider and approached the complainant.

“The unknown person then ran away after the complainant shouted to report to the police.

“After that, he (the complainant) picked up the objects, namely several pieces of wood fitted with sharp screws, and these were placed on both sides of the road,” he told.

Aidi said Bintulu police had been directed to increase patrols especially on quiet streets.

The public are reminded to be careful on the road and contact the police immediately if they see suspicious objects in the middle of the road.

He noted that police were currently tracking the individual and the case would be investigated under Section 427 and Section 511 of the Penal Code.
