MIRI: International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year all over the world.

In conjunction with the celebration on Monday (Mar 8), Miri mayor Adam Yii took the opportunity to meet and distribute face masks and hand sanitisers to various groups of women doing physical exercises at Taman Bulatan here around 7am.

During the meet-and-greet session, Yii reminded them to always follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“We hope that they would maintain the SOPs and wish them safe morning exercise,” Yii said.

Women’s Day has been observed for over 100 years. It was first celebrated in 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.

The theme for this year’s Women’s Day is ‘Choose To Challenge’.
