KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian has not had the opportunity to visit ailing former head of state Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud yet due to his ongoing court engagements.
“I have not visited our former Governor Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud yet because I have been busy attending court cases.
“And that is why you have not seen me attending many functions lately. The court cases that I am currently attending are very important,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after attending a media gathering at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday (Feb 7).
Responding to queries on hospital visits, Dr. Sim clarified that only immediate family members are permitted to visit individuals under medical care, provided there are compelling reasons for doing so.
Earlier reports confirmed that Taib was receiving treatment at his residence in Demak Jaya.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg reassured the public of Taib’s condition, saying medical professionals from Normah Medical Specialist Centre are overseeing his care.
“He (Taib) is still under treatment at home. We have nurses and doctors from Normah Medical Specialist Centre attending to him.
“Regarding his condition, I have not received the latest report yet, but he is OK,” he said.
