KUCHING: Identical twins Thong Chieng Ling and Thong Ching Ling are destined to achieve great things together.

The 24-year-old sisters made their parents proud as both were conferred with a Bachelor in Economics (International Economics) with Honours from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).

Chieng Ling who is the older twin by five minutes disclosed that the pair has been inseparable since birth.

“We have always been together in the same class since kindergarten to primary school then secondary school. When we were offered to further our studies in UNIMAS, it was initially quite challenging for us.

“Previously we were in the science stream, so we had to learn everything from the scratch when we decided to study International Economics,” she said this when met by reporters at the third session of the 25th UNIMAS Convocation Ceremony on Wednesday (Feb 16).

When asked whether the sisters often chose each other as partners for assignments, Chieng Ling pointed out that this was usually the case.

“Of course, we would pair up for assignments unless our lecturers request otherwise or assign the group members beforehand,” she admitted.

Just like any siblings, Ching Ling said they do have their fair share of disagreements and fights.

“Sometimes we do argue with each other when we share different views on things, but that is normal for siblings. However, we are fortunate that our interests are very similar so this does not happen often,” she said.

The twins are currently pursuing their Master’s degree by research in UNIMAS and expressed hopes to continue achieving important milestones in life side by side.
