SIBU: People eligible for the Covid-19 second booster dose have been urged to take their shots as soon as possible.
In making the appeal State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas expressed concern over the state recording only 7.1 per cent turnout for the injection thus far.
“I would like to appeal to whoever not taking the second booster, please come forward.
“According to the medical authority, the second booster does help,” he said when when met by reporters after attending the Appreciation Night for Covid-19 Fronliners for the Central Region last night (Aug 27).
Uggah who is Deputy Premier did not rule out the possibility that people are still doubtful about getting the injection, perhaps for fear of complications.
He advised them not to worry too much but prioritise protecting themselves.
Uggah also reminded the public who are experiencing symptoms of fever and cold to do a self-examination or immediately visit a nearby hospital.
“Now at the hospital, we already have antiviral drugs to treat Covid-19 and will be given to those who are eligible and in need,” he added.
As for the Covid-19 situation in the state, he said the number fluctuated but that the threat was still there.
“We can live as usual because much of the population in this state have received their vaccinations but we must be careful,” he stressed.
