KUALA LUMPUR: The police are investigating Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz under the Sedition Act over a statement he allegedly made at a political ceramah (talk) in Semenyih last Saturday.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said today the police had received a report on the matter.
“We are conducting the investigation and will be calling up several people to record their statements. Once the probe has been completed, the investigation papers will be submitted to the DPP for the next course of action,” he told reporters after officiating at the 63rd anniversary of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) here.
Mohamad Fuzi said the investigation was being carried out under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.
Yesterday, the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) condemned a statement by Mohamed Nazri made at a ceramah in Semenyih, saying it was assumed the statement was intended to trigger racial hatred and dissatisfaction with the intention of winning the Semenyih state by-election.
Suhakam chairman Tan Sri Razali Ismail reportedly said that Mohamed Nazri’s statement was related to the appointment of non-Malays to the posts of Chief Justice, Attornery-General and Finance Minister. – Bernama
