IKBN Miri wants to produce skilled workforce

MIRI: The National Youth Training Institute (IKBN) Miri is committed to produce a more skilled workforce to meet the needs of the industry, assured Youth and Sports deputy secretary-general (strategy) Ramona Mohd Razali.

Speaking at the IKBN Miri’s 12th convocation ceremony yesterday, Ramona disclosed that IKBN helped strengthen the TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) sector by implementing various initiatives to meet the industry’s needs.

“Our graduation rates have increased from 80 percent in 2013 to 93 percent in 2018 with an average salary of RM1,678,” she said.

She also added the number of graduates securing employment within six months after their graduation is high.

On the convocation ceremony, a total of 16 graduates received their certificates.

At the event, Mohammad Hiqmal Ahzaman, who took up a course on car maintenance, was named as the best graduate.

At the end of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between IBKN Miri with three private companies as part of the institute’s mission to strengthen its public-private partnership.

A career fest was also held in conjunction with the event.
