KUCHING: The Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) wants to establish cooperation with agencies in the Sarawak government.

IKIM deputy chairman Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz said the institute wants to carry out researches, seminars, conferences and others.

“For instance, collaboration in the field of research, including training programmes that can be implemented together with agencies in the Sarawak government.

“We are very excited because we found a programme like this, and the Sarawak government is moving far ahead, including having cooperation with those outside the country.

“Hence, we also want to offer cooperation, including the implementation of intellectual discourse programmes, international seminars and many more,” the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) quoted him as saying in a report.

Wan Mohamad was speaking to the media after paying a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Friday (Jan 27).

He added that IKIM would be a bridge to intensify cooperation with any agency under the Sarawak government for mutual benefit.

“In line with IKIM’s mission and function as an agency that focuses on research, consultation and promoting understanding, IKIM sees Sarawak as a model to intensify the agenda of fostering harmony between Malaysians which consists of various religious, racial, and cultural backgrounds.”

During the courtesy visit, Wan Mohamad also briefed Abang Johari about the activities carried out by IKIM.
