Iljin’s copperfoil plant ready in Dec

KUCHING: The construction of the Iljin Materials Malaysia Sdn Bhd’s copperfoil plant at the Sama Jaya High Tech Park here is scheduled for completion in December this year, the Sarawak Legislative Assembly was told yesterday.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said Iljin planned to commence phase two of the project soon to cater to the strong market demand for its products.

”The construction of the plant started in early January this year,” he said when winding up his ministry’s debate on the Supply 2019 Bill.

Awang  Tengah, who is also State Industrial and Entrepreneur Development Minister cum Second Minister for Urban Development and Natural Resources, said the recruitment has commenced and Iljin expects to employ 144 people, comprising 10 engineers, nine management staff and 125 operators/technicians by year-end.

Besides Iljin, he said LONGI Group was also planning to expand its facilities in Sama Jaya, investing an additional RM820 million for monocrystalline silicon cell production.

Awang Tengah said the expansion would create 800 more jobs in Sama Jaya.

”In total, Sama Jaya has a current workforce of 11,600 where 98 per cent are locals,” he said, adding that Sama Jaya generated RM380 million in wages and RM3.2 billion in export value last year. -Bernama
