KUCHING: Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng said he would defend his seat come the 15th General Election (GE15).

This came after Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president-designate Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin said the party would not be fielding its candidate in Sarawak due to the absence of Barisan Nasional (BN) parties in the state.

Sng said Zuraida was misquoted, adding that “nothing has changed” and that he, being the president of the party, would know if he would contest or otherwise.

“What the party has decided is that it will contest all seats where the elected representative is from PBM.

“Zuraida will issue a new statement and correct what was reported,” he told a national portal yesterday.

Earlier, Zuraida reportedly confirmed that PBM would not be fielding candidates in Sarawak in GE15 since it planned to join BN. This would mean Sng would not be able to defend his seat.

“No … we will not do that because I said earlier, here (Sarawak) there is no BN,” she told reporters at a function here.

Sng maintained that the party was free to contest any seat in GE15 since its application to join BN had yet to be approved. PBM had applied to join the national coalition in July.

He won the Julau seat in the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018 on an independent ticket, defeating Parti Rakyat Sarawak’s (PRS) Joseph Salang Gandum in a straight fight, winning by a majority of 1,931 votes.
