KUCHING: Outgoing Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk James Chan (pic) insists he will continue to serve city folk in his own way in his retirement.

Chan has served as mayor for 11 years and will retire on Aug 31.

“I will still contribute from the outside after my days as mayor are over. I feel that there is something I still need to do. Maybe I can even communicate with the management,” he said to reporters when asked to comment on his retirement plans.

Chan  said serving the community is the task of every member of the public, which is why he will still contribute “in my small ways” once he has retired.

He said it is not right to leave every matter concerning the council to the councillors and mayor.

Reiterating his support for every government’s effort, he said, “The government is striving for the betterment of our state. It should be appreciated by all.”
