SIBU: Police have busted suspected illegal crypto mining at a two-storey premise in Jalan Serai here Wednesday which had incurred losses from stolen electricity worth almost half a million ringgits.

According to Sibu police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement yesterday (August 11) the operation police around 12:50 pm, is a joint operation between Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and the police.

“A total of 34 units of crypto mining machines were seized which estimated to be worth RM38,000,” he said.

Sarawak Energy has incurred about RM496,000 losses due to unregistered electricity consumption from the electricity theft.

“The case is being investigated under section 379/427 of the penal code,” he said.
