Illegal immigrants arrested in relation to online gambling

PADAWAN: The police here busted an online gambling call centre by arresting two illegal immigrants last Saturday (Apr 16).

After receiving information that a premises was carrying out online gambling activities, a police team, led by Kota Sentosa police station chief ASP Mohd Roslan, conducted a raid at an apartment along Jalan Batu Kawa at 11.35pm.

According to Padawan OCPD Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, who confirmed the matter, the premises, which was utilised as a venue to conduct online gambling activities or better known as a ‘calling centre’, has been functioning for roughly four months,

“The team managed to apprehend two foreigners, both of whom were 27 years old.

“Preliminary information found that the online gambling centre operated for 24 hours in two shifts.

“Apart from that, the suspects, who lived in the apartment unit, were paid RM1,500 each month,” he added.

Two various branded computer sets, two phones as well as an Internet modem were also seized during the operation.

Both suspects would be remanded under Section 4(1)(g) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, said Abang Zainal.

The suspects being investigated by the police.
