TEBEDU: Four undocumented Indonesian immigrants were deported back after attempting to enter Sarawak via a rat trail (jalan tikus) last Friday.

The First Infantry Division said a patrol team spotted and inspected the foreigners who were walking towards the border around 9pm.

“All of them from Entikong, Indonesia, planned to enter the state for the purpose of working in Sibu.

“They were deported back to their country and a police report was lodged at Tebedu police station,” a military spokesman said.

Meanwhile on Dec 2, a team from the army discovered 183 pieces of sawn logs at Kampung Danau Melikin, Serian around 3pm.

It is believed the logs of various species of wood worth over RM4,500, were smuggled into the country through an illegal logging activity at the Malaysia–Indonesia border.

The finding was immediately reported to Sarawak Forest Department (SFD) which sent its officials to inspect the items.

The military expressed their commitment to safeguard the country’s border against illegal activities and will not compromise with any individual who tries to enter the state illegally especially during the Copvid-19 pandemic period.
