Illegal immigrants nabbed in Sematan

The seven illegal immigrants were caught in Sematan on Sunday.

KUCHING: Seven illegal immigrants were caught by the General Operations Force (GOF) in Sematan, about 110km from here.

A patrol team from the Telok Melano outpost carried out inspections on six men and a woman on Sunday (Feb 21) around 4.40pm.

The group failed to produce any valid travel documents, committing offences under Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act 1959 (Act 155) and the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act 1988 (Act 342).

They were later ordered to return to their country of origin via the Telok Melano outpost.

In a similar incident in Serian, about 60km from here, another patrol team carried out a check on a rental van at KM12, Kampung Tema Saan around 10.45am.

The team found 10 Indonesians inside and upon checking, found two persons-a man and a boy-with expired travel documents.

Both were ordered to return to their country of origin via the Tebedu Immigration and Customs Quarantine Complex.
