KUCHING: Police busted an illegal online gambling call centre at Jalan Sungai Tapang here with the arrest of six local men last Tuesday.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said a team of Criminal Investigation Division (CID) officers raided a rented condominium unit around 4.45pm.

During the raid, the team found and arrested six individuals aged 21 to 24.

“The syndicate is believed to have been operating the call centre for at least three months at the said location.

“The CID team also seized monitors, central processing units (CPUs), keyboards, computer mice, mobile phones, modems, a router, video recorder, sim cards and a logbook of bank transactions.

“The suspects and seized items were taken to the police station for further action,” Aidil said in a statement today.

He added that the syndicate made about RM7,000 per day and each worker was given a salary of RM1,500 per month.

“The group used the rented apartment unit to hide from authorities. Each operator is supplied with a smartphone and a computer by the syndicate.
