KUCHING: Police have crippled an illegal online gambling operation believed to be raking in about RM8 million for the past three months.

A raid codenamed ‘Ops Dadu Khas’ was carried out around 5pm on a house in Lorong Ang Cheng Ho here last Sunday (July 11).

This led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man, and district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said: “The man was hired to manage several other centre accounts.”

“Besides that, he was also promoting various types of online gambling using social media applications.

“He has been working with this syndicate for about four months now while the centre had been operating since early this year,” he added.

Police also seized various computer equipment, including routers, modems and two phones.

ACP Ahsmon pointed out that the suspect had two prior cases related to the same activity in another district.

He will be remanded for further investigation under Section 4 (1) (g) of the Open Gambling House Act 1953.
