MIRI: The General Operations Force (GOF) 12th Battalion seized contrabandgoods worth RM1,343,352.80 from a house at Taman Desa Senadin, Jalan Lutong-Kuala Baram on Monday (Aug 3).

GOF 12th Battalion commanding officer Supt Tan Hiap Seng said that the operation, codenamed Ops Libas, was carried out around 9am at the house which was suspected of storing uncustomed cigarettes and liquors.

After a two-hour wait, the raiding team gained access into the house by cutting off a lock on its fence.

“Inspections resulted in a finding of various cigarettes and liquor stored in the house. They found 6,439 cigarette cartons (1,214,040 cigarettes) with an estimated value of RM936,782.80.

“The team found various brands of liquor — 1,824 cartons (cans) estimated to worth RM273,600; 202 boxes (bottles) with an estimated value of RM38,380; and 90 boxes of hard liquor valued at RM94,590,” he said, adding that the liquors’ total value is RM406,570.

Tan pointed out that the total value of the seizure is RM1,343,352.80.

The seized contrabands were handed over to Miri district police headquarters (IPD) for further actions and the case is being investigated under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
