MIRI: Three drainage improvement projects to mitigate floods in Luak are in the pipeline, said Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew.

The Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Deputy Minister I said the projects proposed under his Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) would be implemented this year to end flash floods.

“Before I was elected as YB in 2016 (for Piasau), people will called up Tan Sri Peter Chin (back then, Ting was Tan Sri Peter Chin’s political secretary) on flooding in their areas, and when I started serving them in 2016 as their elected representative, I told them that by the year 2021, there would be no more flooding within Luak,” he said yesterday (Apr 4).

Ting, the Piasau assemblyman, stressed that he would continue to improve the drainage system in areas within his constituency.

He was met after inspecting the completed drainage system along the Jalan Kampung Luak 1E.

The project which kicked off on Sept 13 last year was completed a month ahead of schedule.

With the completion of the RM100,000 project under Ting’s Piasau RTP, it would help ease the burden of the surrounding residents affected by flash floods.

The drain is 70 metres long and one metre deep.
