Immigration Dept to continue with ‘H2O’

KUCHING: Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division is committed to continue their ‘Hari Hari Operasi’ (H2O) and has made four separate operations around Kuching area from last Monday until yesterday morning.

The first operation which started at 3.20pm was led by Deputy Immigration Enforcement Officer (TPPI) Hairol Asuad Usop and assisted by TPPI Romel Macoco Rodolfo with 16 members of the enforcement unit.

Meanwhile, three Indian nationals and an Indonesian woman who were suspected of committing an offense under Article 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for misusing social visit pass to work without a valid work permit were nabbed during an inspection under Ops Ikrar (SELERA) at a food premises in Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.

In the operation at about 5.00pm, TPPI Shahrul Rizal Abd Malek together with 17 members also conducted an inspection around Demak Laut area.

During Ops Ikrar (KUTIP) 21 individuals comprising five local men, 15 Indonesian men and an Indonesian woman were checked.

An Indonesian man who failed to produce any valid travel document was arrested for committing an offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The operations led by TPPI Mehuen Runies and assisted by TPPI Hairol Asuad and TPPI Romel Macoco Rodolfo with 40 members continued until 1.50am.

Two different locations were raided separately yesterday morning in Ops Ikrar (SAPU). One was in a workers’ quarters at a construction site at Jalan Bako and the other at a workers’ quarters in Jalan Daya, Pending Industrial Estate.

A total of 142 individuals were checked in both operations comprising 30 local men and three local women, 96 Indonesian men and 13 Indonesian women.

Twenty-five illegal immigrants, comprising of 24 Indonesian men and an Indonesian woman were detained from the two locations. Of the number, 20 men and a woman were arrested on suspicion of committing an offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for failing to produce any identification document and valid travel documents.

Four Indonesian men were also detained under Section 15 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying in the state.

All together, a total of 30 people including four Indian nationals, two Indonesian women and 24 Indonesian men were arrested in the operations.

State Immigration Enforcement Division Head, Garry Belayong when contacted in relation to the success of the operations described the implementation of H2O must be continued regardless of time and place.

“This is because we do not want our Department to be belittled and criticised repeatedly by any party and individual who do not know the exact position, duties and responsibilities that we bear.

“We conduct operations and make arrests of illegal immigrants who violated the Immigration Act and Regulations and we do not compromise with any party, individuals and related companies that protect and employ illegal immigrants,” he stressed.

All illegal immigrants who were arrested would be taken to Semuja Immigration Detention Depot in Serian for further investigation.
