KAPIT: The Sarawak Immigration Department arrested seven foreign men yesterday (Apr 30) for overstaying in the country.

Acting on complaints and intelligence gathering, the Kapit Immigration Enforcement Unit conducted an operation dubbed ‘Ops Mahir’ at a construction site in town here.

During the morning raid, the team inspected 14 individuals for their documentation and arrested seven Indonesians for overstaying their permits in Malaysia.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and punishable under Section 15(4) of the same Act, upon conviction.

In light of this, the department urged employers and foreigners to adhere to the law by applying or renewing the appropriate permits to avoid legal consequences.

The public is advised to report any information regarding the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
