SARATOK: Students at SMK Agama here have been told to pay equal attention to religious studies and the demands of today’s new economy.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said it goes without saying that religious schools produce human capital proficient in Jawi, Arabic and the Quran.

“However, the demands of new economic fields for the future should be explored and mastered simultaneously by all children.

“In that regard, I suggest the children of SMK Agama Saratok seize the opportunity but not at the expense of religious studies,” he said after the school’s Majlis Jaaizatul Mumtaaziin at Dewan As Saadah, yesterday.

He stressed that in order to ensure the economy continues to grow, it is important to master new economic sectors as encouraged by the Sarawak government.

“The impact of good economic growth will enable Sarawak to provide free university education in 2026 to Sarawakian children who study at Sarawak-owned institutions.

“The government led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasises on education,” he said.
