Impressive Malaysia Day performance

KUCIHNG: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he is very impressed on how the national-level Malaysia Day celebration held in the State had been smoothly managed which involved the cooperation of both Federal and State government.

He said the celebration had received such an overwhelming response although the haze had worsened.

“If it had been held at the Padang Merdeka, I believe more would come to join the celebration.

“Nevertheless, we have the whole celebration broadcasted live,” he told reporters at the end of the celebration at Stadium Perpaduan, last night.

Mahathir said he has also managed to get new ideas from the stage performances in particular the shadow play.

“I want to congratulate the chairperson in charge of the event, that is Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Minister of Communication and Multimedia Gobind Singh Deo who had work closely in ensuring the success of the celebration,” he said.

He went on to say the Malaysia Day celebration was very important as it celebrated Malaysia being formed as a country.

“I believed this unity among us that is shown in Malaysia will continue to remain and bring us forward to being a prosperous country,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Awang Tengah when met, said he is proud that the celebration was a success.
“It was a full house in an out of the stadium. And I want to thank all especially those involved who have worked hard and carried out energetic performances,” he said.

Similar to Dr Mahathir, he admired the shadow play which was a scene about unity and togetherness as a Malaysian.
