Imprisonment for foreigner who pleaded guilty to two criminal offenses

KUCHING: A foreigner, who pleaded guilty to two criminal offenses, namely trespassing and injuring, was sentenced to one year in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday (Oct 13).

Magistrate Mohamad Syukri Mokhtar also ordered the 20-year-old Indonesian to be referred to the Immigration office after completing his term.

For the first offense of causing injury to complainant Toh Pek Chung, the accused was sentenced to six months in prison.

The accused injured the victim at 4.30pm in a house at Taman Tabuan Desa on Oct 6.

For the second charge, the accused was also sentenced to six months in prison for trespassing into the same victim’s house on the day of the incident.

According to the facts of the case, on the day of the incident, the complainant found an unidentified man invading his house and when the victim was about to ask for help from his neighbour, he was punched in the face.

Following the incident, the accused was arrested by several of the complainant’s neighbours before being handed over to the police for further action.

Meanwhile in a separate case, a local man who did not have a driving licence while driving a Perodua Bezza car against traffic flow, was fined RM3,000 or three months in jail.

Magistrate Mohamad Syukri ordered the 23-year-old man to be charged with obstructing the duties of enforcement personnel under Section 186 of the Penal Code.

The accused committed the offence at 12.40am on Sept 2 in Jalan Stutong Baru here.
