LINGGA assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor has proposed that Sarawakian teachers be offered scholarships to further their studies.

Citing a recommendation from the World Bank, she said educators should be given opportunities to enhance the quality of teaching.

In addition to effective teacher training programmes, she emphasised the need to improve policies that consider the experiences and needs of teachers.

“Referring to the World Bank’s report, it stated, ‘Malaysia needs more sophisticated and advanced skills to transition into a high-income country.’

“Usually, we only focus on improving students’ performance in schools. However, the performance of teachers should also be emphasised.

“This is one step to encourage teachers and educators to continuously expand their knowledge and experience in line with changing times and technological advancements,” she said while debating in support of the motion of appreciation to the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, in the August House today (May 10).

On another matter, she said that the new construction project for the sub-district office and quarters in Maludam was approved on January 25, with an estimated site area of 16.89 hectares.

“This news, though brief, brings hope to all officers at the Sub-District Office in Maludam that this project can be implemented in the near future using the design of the office and quarters from Public Works Department (PWD) Pre-Approved Plans.

“This is because the condition of the District Office in Maludam is no longer safe due to cracks in the wooden posts under the building caused by the annual floods,” she added.
