A HOME improvement programme introduced by the state government in 2018 has become a big help for the poor.

The Minor Rural Project- Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Project (MRP-PPRMS), which was introduced by the Sarawak government in 2018 has assisted eligible recipients in house repair work in the state.

The programme also helps in speeding up the implementation of Minor Rural Projects (MRP) to benefit the people especially poor households who need proper and safe shelters.

Under the programme, each Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) assemblyman and member of the parliament (MP) is allocated RM1 million annually to carry out the repair works.

Those registered under e-Kasih and households in the Bottom 40 (B40) group are eligible to receive the assistance to repair houses that are deemed unsafe to be inhabited and dilapidated.

Village heads as well as committee members of a village are also responsible for identifying eligible recipients.

Abang Johari in his Budget 2022 statement said the state government provided an allocation of RM80 million for PPRMS, RM50 million will go to rebuild and repair dilapidated longhouses.
