LONG LAMA, MIRI:  More than two hundred runners from as far as Miri City, Batu Niah and surroundings longhouses participated in the inaugural Long Lama Bridge Run 2019 (now called Jambatan Adenan Satem).

The run covered six kilometers and divided into two categories — Open and students.

Telang Usan assemblymen Dennis Ngau in his speech at the prize presentation ceremony last Saturday morning lauded the organising team and participants as the run would go into history as the first be held in Telang Usan.

Eager runners take off early Saturday morning.

“When I mooted the run idea during the soft launch of the bridge project on April 18 this year, I had no doubt that it would receive good response as it is unique being held in the deep heart of Sarawak surrounded by beautiful jungle,” he said.

“Following today’s great response, we will target more than 500 runners next year. We will add extra distance to the open route up to 20 kilometres. The prizes will be attractive to pull in especially those who love nature,” he said, adding that the run will be held every year henceforth.

“It is our way of showing our appreciation to the state government for having built the bridge which has changed the landscape of Telang Usan. It has brought so much positiveness to our people,” he said.

As this was the first time the run was held the organising committee decided not to give prizes to the top finishers but gave prizes to the top 10 in all the categorise. But from next year onward attractive prizes will be given to the champions.

Also present at the event were Telang Usan District Officer Baru Tai, Penghulu Desmond Yap Cheng Siang, Kapitan Yeo Kee Shiang, headmen and local councillors.
