KUCHING: The inaugural storytelling workshop and seminar, titled “Celebrating Our Stories: Transforming Families, Education, and Culture through the Magic of Narratives・ attracted over 100 students from diverse fields.

According to a press release from Ika Picture Story House, the workshop aimed to inspire local storytellers, encouraging them to share narratives locally and internationally, fostering a robust foundation for the growth of Sarawak’s culture and art.

Conducted at the theaterette hall of SEGI College Sarawak on Dec 15 and 16, the workshop also featured an open storytelling presentation for families at Pure Days Studio on Dec 16.

Guest speakers at the event included international storyteller Ariyo Zidni and Malaysian storyteller Ng Kok Keong. The workshop facilitators also included local Sarawakian storytellers Grace Wong and Poh Sze Lyn, providing participants with diverse perspectives and experiences in the field of storytelling.

The press release highlighted the significance of breaking stereotypes associated with storytelling, noting that it goes beyond the notion of kindergarten teachers reading stories to children.
