KUCHING: The inaugural skills competition will be held under the tag of ‘Worldskills Malaysia Sarawak 2017’ will take place from 19 August to 29 October, this year.

Minister of Education, Science and Technology Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong, said the objective of organising the competition is to promote and recognise the state’s youth talents in the field of skills.

“This is in line with the aspirations of the state government to fulfill the Sarawak Corridor of Renewal Energy (SCORE) agenda which requires competent and skilled personnel.

“The Ministry of Human Resources has also made a benchmark that is to achieve Malaysia’s aspirations as a developed nation where the country needs a skilled manpower of 35 per cent by 2020,” Manyin said when addressing a press conference in conjunction with the Wordskills Malaysia Sarawak 2017 competition at Baitulmakmur Building here yesterday.

He added that the competition would be divided into two stages namely preliminary and final rounds.
