KUCHING: The Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) is giving out incentives to fishermen who land their catches at the new Tanjong Bako Port. Chairman of LKIM, Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim said that the rate of incentives were 20 cents per kilogramme (kg) for C2 type of fishes and 10 cents per kg for C and below types of fishes.

“Only those who land their catches at this complex will be given incentives. We want to develop good and centralised fish landings at the complex,” said Irmohizam in an interview during his visit to the port yesterday. He pointed out that no such incentives had ever been given before on fish landings at ports. Irmohizam was happy that the port was almost completed.

“The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) has agreed to provide fuel to Persatuan Seri Muara while LKIM engages other fishermen associations to promote landings at the Tanjong Bako Port,” he added.

Meanwhile, Irmohizam’s working visit yesterday was his fifth visit to the complex. He pointed out that in a month’s time, the port, the biggest and most modern in terms of technology in Southeast Asia and Malaysia, would be bustling with activities.

Yesterday, Irmohizam inspected the equipment and facilities available at the port besides meeting MDTCC to hand over the approval letter for the use of the fuel station as well as ice makers for the use of fishermen at Tanjong Bako and in Kuching.
