KUCHING: A total of 191 personnel and staff of the Fire and Rescue Services Department, Royal Malaysian Police, Ministry of Health, Kuching Port Authority, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Civil Defence Force, Marine Department, Department of Environment and Bako Voluntary Bomba participated in an incident management training at Kuching Port Authority (KPA) near here, yesterday.

State Fire and Rescue Services Department assistant operation director, Tiong Ling Hii said the exercise was aimed at assessing how ready each agency is to face various incidents.

“What we are concerned about is how each agency coordinates its logistics, communications and functions because we are aware of any incident, even in the absence of a disaster, it will create crisis management in the field,” he said at a press conference here.

He also felt that it was necessary to conduct this exercise more frequently to reduce the crisis management in the event of any incident in the future. “Sometimes fires involve large factories or warehouses which will involve crisis management where various problems will occur. “We try to create a scenario of our weaknesses and how we can address them,” he said.
