MIRI: Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon has called for the inclusion of the Sarawak Kenyah Culture Festival (SKCF) in the state and national tourism calendar.

Chukpai who is president of the Federation of Orang Ulu Association Malaysia said doing so could see it becoming the signature event to promote Kenyah culture to outsiders.

“It is our hope that the festival will be included as an annual event in the Sarawak and Malaysia Tourism calendar in line with the government’s intention to transform Sarawak into a premier destination for eco-tourism and community-driven business events,” he said.

He made these remarks at a dinner held in conjunction with the closing of the festival here on Sunday.

The fifth edition of the festival, which saw Kenyah from across the state converging here, was held from Dec 8-10.

Also present at the dinner were Deputy Secretary  General (Culture) Mohd Yusri Mohd Yusoff who represented Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, Baram MP Dato Anyi Ngau and Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau.
