Increase in number of cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded an increase in the number of cases at 2,723, compared to the previous day (2,464 cases), along with two fatalities today (Sept 4).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said all the cases were under Category 1 and 2.

Kuching district accounted for the highest number of cases at 1231; followed by Sibu (323); Bau (125); Betong (110); Mukah (104); Bintulu (100); Lundu (95); Pusa (82); Sri Aman (73); Serian (64); Simunjan (61); Kapit (52); Miri (44); Subis (41); Tatau (28); Selangau (27); Samarahan (25); Kanowit (20); Song (19); Asajaya (16); Lubok Antu (12).

Ten new cases were reported in Saratok; Belaga and Maradong (nine each); Limbang and Tebedu (eight each); Pakan (seven); Beluru (six); Marudi (four); Lawas and Sebauh (three each); and two each in Dalat and Julau.

With this, the state has 127,151 cumulative Covid-19 positive cases thus far.

A total of 1,474 of the new cases are individuals who had close contact with positive cases, 157 cases are individuals in existing clusters, 224 cases from screening of symptomatic individuals at health facilities, 864 cases from other screenings at health facilities and four were Import B cases from individuals returning from Sabah.

On another note, the committee said 2,322 cases have recovered and were discharged from hospitals and low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs) statewide.

This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases to 98,361 or 77.36 percent of the total number of cases in Sarawak. There are still 28,030 active cases remaining.

The committee also said that the two fatalities recorded today.

The 548th death involved a 75-year-old man from Serian who was confirmed positive on Aug 20. He was brought in dead (BID) to Serian Hospital and had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke.

The second death recorded involved a 100-year-old man from Bau who was also BID to Bau Hospital. The case tested positive on Aug 30 and had a history of high blood pressure.
