LAWAS: Sarawakians are urged to inculcate the spirit of patriotism by flying the Jalur Gemilang flag during the Merdeka month.

“If not us, who else will fly the Jalur Gemilang?” said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan when addressing villagers at the Kampung Dato Mosque, Kuala Lawas today, in conjunction with the launch of National Month for Lawas District.

“Although there are people in the community affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the government always provides assistance to those in need,” he said.

He explained that the federal government had allocated about RM284.5 billion to help people of all categories, through the Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR) packages.

Awang Tengah added that the state government had also provided assistance through the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) packages including assistance given to entrepreneurs and youths.

At the event, the deputy chief minister also presented food baskets donated by the Sarawak Scout Council to 10 recipients.

He also presented compensation cheques worth a total of RM1,264,378 to 33 landowners whose lands were affected by the construction of Kuala Lawas Bridge project.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Rural Development Datuk Henry Sum Agong, Limbang Division Resident Ahmad Denny and Lawas District Officer Ladin Atok.
