SIBU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Lanang candidate, Wong Ching Yong has slammed incumbent Alice Lau for misleading the people by saying that if Pakatan Harapan (PH) forms the next government, the nation’s inflation rate will be 0.66 per cent.

This was the inflation rate during PH’s previous 22 months’ rule.

“This statement is very misleading and not objective because she did not take into consideration the impact from the Ukraine War.

“Most of Ukraine’s exports of grain and other agricultural products are to European countries. From Russia is gas. Now, the supplies have been affected,” Wong said during his daily press conference at the SUPP Dudong branch service centre today.

The SUPP Dudong branch chairman pointed out that all the stated factors led to high inflation rates worldwide.

“In September, the inflation rate in Britain was 9 per cent. The Bank of England predicted that the rate in January 2023 in Britain will be 18.6 per cent which will be the highest.

“In Singapore, in September the rate of inflation was 7.5 per cent while for Malaysia it was 5 per cent,” he said.

Wong also said the tensions between Taiwan and China would cause countries in the Asian region to be affected in terms of economy and cost of living.

“We are expecting Malaysia to face an inflation problem next year. This is my reply to Alice’ statement that PH will be able to maintain an inflation rate at 0.66 per cent if PH wins the election,” he said.

Wong also challenged Lau to reveal all the allocations and development she brought during her two-term in office.

“Alice said that she had contributed more than RM2.4 million during her 10 years as MP. I challenge her to list out all the allocations and developments that she has brought to the people of Lanang,” he said.
