SPAOH: With the 15th general election (GE15) closing in, the independent candidate for Betong wants to win the parliamentary seat to resolve his constituents’ problems and improve their quality of life.

Hasbie Satar said he had the credibility and ability to bring their woes to Parliament.

“With my manifesto, I believe I can help improve the living standards of the people,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Saturday (Nov 12).

Hasbie has served in the federal government for over 10 years under three prime ministers from 1998 to 2010 (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Datuk Seri Najib Razak).

He said he still had connection with federal ministries and this could be to his advantage in presenting issues faced by Betong.

“I have moved around Betong and met up with the people, they tell me the problems they faced and I even see with my own eyes what is needed.

“Now that they know who I am, I believe that they can make the wise choice of voting for me to represent them because of my resume and my experience in the government.”

On another note, he believed young voters could be a gamechanger in GE15. “By organising sports events for youths, it’s one way for me to get close to them and for them to know me…to tell them what I want to change in Betong, for them and everyone.”The father of five children added: “I believe anything can happen (in GE15). The traditional way of campaigning is going to the ground but there are also various channels to reach out.”

“We have social media apps such as Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and many others,” he said, regarding the dissemination of his election manifesto to the masses in Betong to improve his chances.
