PADAWAN: An Indian national faces the gallows after he was caught with over RM13,000 worth of ecstasy drug.

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said the 23-year-old foreign worker was nabbed during a raid at a karaoke centre in Batu Kawa, Kuching last Monday (June 14).

“The suspect was detained under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and remanded for seven days to assist in investigations.

“The total value of drugs seized was RM 13,550 involving the seizure of juice powder suspected to be ecstasy (766.68g) and a number of ecstasy pills (53 pills),” he said yesterday (June 16).

He explained that if convicted, the suspect could be sentenced to death by hanging or life imprisonment as well as 15 strokes of the cane.

Nine other persons were also arrested during the raid for engaging in an illegal wild party in a private room at the premises.

“The results of the urine drug test also found that four of them were positive for drugs and were detained under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“All of them were also compounded RM4,000 each for violating the standard operating procedure (SOP) under the movement control order (MCO),” he added.

Lim said the value of the compounds issued totaled RM36,000.
